I'm traveling in the Washington DC area this week. I decided to go out to a local park and get more used to my new 40D. While there I came across several deer that were feeding so I switched to my longest lens (200mm) and started to grab some shots. Unfortunately this lens max aperture is only 5.6 so I really had to bump the ISO to get any decent shots. This one is using an ISO of 1600! I'm pretty impresses with the quality given the ISO and that I was using a shutter of 1/100. Thank goodness for that rapid 6.5 fps!!

Saw this heron on my way in to work the other day. Stopped to grab a few shots. Sure glad I've been keeping my camera close by. At one point he seemed to not want me around. You can see he's not real happy with me.

Took this one last year. The colors are exactly the way the sky looked. Lasted for only about 5 minutes. I just happened to look out the window when I spotted it and knew I had to get my camera.

After some storms came through the other night I took a few shots of the sky. I like the dark, eerie feeling they give. Might make a nice background to an image someday.

Nothing spectacular about the composition here but I was amazed at the clarity given the camera was set to ISO 1600 and it was getting pretty dark outside. Since I had a few extra minutes tonight I decided to play in the yard with my new 40D. We have more rabbits than you can count so I took the time to grab a few shots. I was surprised how close I was able to get before they moved. Had my lens all the way out to 200mm.

Received my Canon 40D today. I love it. Unfortunately the weather was pretty crummy so I spent some time around the yard looking for subjects. This is one of the star roses we just planted. Not a perfect composition but I liked the detail.

I regularly pass this older building near the railroad tracks and am always drawn to it. It has a lot of character and interesting colors. The building appears to still be used. I took this picture of the garage door during midday under direct sunlight. I did some sharpening and tweaked the saturation some in Digital Photo Professional. The colors are representative of how the building looks under harsh sunlight.
